During
our life education and experience puts layers like onion
skins over our authentic, expressive voices. The Leader’s
Voice reverses this process to rediscover those voices.
The programme begins with each participant reading out
loud something which is significant to them. The exquisite
sound quality provided by the studio environment allows
us to listen to our voices as they now are, and hear
them in a completely new way. This first recording becomes
the base of our exploration for the next two days.
That exploration
covers three areas:
Authenticity
at the level of voice: exploring the
difference between how we feel about something, how
we “connect” with it, and the sounds that actually come
out when we speak;
Tools to support the authentic
voice: sculptors, painters, musicians,
architects and engineers all have tools that enable
them to move from intention to expression and creation.
The tools we introduce help authentic expression; they
peel back layers of the onion. As with artistic tools,
These techniques don’t replace creativity, but aid the
expression of creativity and originality of thought.
The inner voice:
an always present inner voice guides most of our actions.
This voice most often reflects experience, memories
and things we’ve learned from the past. A more subtle
inner voice is guided by deeply held values and beliefs
and a future we are trying to create. There’s often
an inconsistency between these inner voices when we
become are of them By taking that inconsistency out
of our expression of ourselves, we enable authenticity
to emerge.
The participants work as a learning team, giving each
other feedback, exploring issues in dialogue with each
other and coaching each other in the shaping of authentic
messages.
Over the course of the two days, we work in parallel
with the three areas of exploration. Working with feedback,
tools and insights we bring out the Authentic Voice
that resides within each and every leader and individual.
The process culminates with the recording of a self-authored
expression that integrates the learning gained through
the process.
